Hawaii mortgage rates start off the last week of February going both down and up with the 30 year fixed rate going down by about .25% while the 15 year Hawaii mortgage has gone up by about the same .25%.

One other thing I’m beginning to notice is the huge differences between some locally based banks and Mainland lenders. Sometimes these gaps are as huge as 1.5 points in differences for the same rate!

So far I’ve singled out one local bank who is coming in consistently higher in points and their not offering any 30 day Hawaii mortgage rate locks either. I wonder what’s going on there? Nevertheless, there are still huge opportunities out there:

Today I bring you good news if you’ve been watching over the last couple weeks, Hawaii mortgage rates were creeping up each and every update we’ve brought to you.

Luckily today Honolulu mortgage rates took a big dip going down about half a point in cost for both the 15 year and 30 year fixed, conforming Hawaii mortgage.

If you also remember that I’ve been mentioning that a few lenders, both local and mainland based, were experiencing high volumes of business which was causing some back-ups. In turn these lenders were forced to do away with the 30 day rate locks, and only accept 45 day locks.

Today I found out that Wells Fargo is now again accepting 30 day Hawaii mortgage rate locks which means that your loans should be going through underwriting and reaching approval a bit faster!

While Honolulu mortgage rates creep up, it just ever so slightly a move upwards about an eighth of a percentage point in cost and/or rate for both the 30 and 15 year fixed conforming Hawaii mortgage.

I’m seeing that a lot of lenders such as Wells Fargo and First Hawaiian Bank are still only accepting 45 day rate locks which indicate that their underwriting and approval departments are still going strong and busy.

Hawaii mortgage rates are moving, but once again not by much. The 30 year rate has increased a bit, by about an eigth of a percentage but still doing very nicely.

Honolulu mortgage rates for the 15 year fixed have also moved up a bit, by about a quarter of a percent but still nothing major going on.

The last week has shown a trend with rates moving up again, however I wouldn’t let that scare you if you are thinking about applying for a Hawaii mortgage.
